Our Journey

by Jeannette Stark

Listen you nurses and you shall hear
Of our tumultuous journey from the past two years.

Who can forget how it all started
Fundamentals was hard – there were some who departed.

Then to the hospital we flocked for Med Surg I
It was an eye opening experience, our skills were hard won.

Soon exams were all finished, that first semester was done.
Thank heavens for Christmas – it was time for some fun.

But, don’t get too comfy, that break went by fast.
Before very long, it was time to go back.

Med Surg II came next, WHEW…what a class.
After studying hard, we felt lucky to pass.

Then we moved on to Psych. ……Man, THAT was crazy.
While talking with patients there was no time to be lazy.

The weather turned HOT – The pool looked inviting!
Three months with no books, Now THAT was exciting!

Too soon summer was over, for vacation we yearned.
It really IS possible to forget all you’ve learned.

Next came Pedi –What can I say?
They’re so cute and so fun – It was like playing all day.

And then we had BABIES – O.B. delivered change.
To witness new life brought emotions to reign.

Now THIS Christmas was different – Much wiser were we.
We knew what was coming. We needed to read.

Because next on our schedule came Critical Care.
Those care plans were KILLERS that we all had to bear.

Last but not least came our Management class.
We’d been told it was easy, but that was a laugh.

In charge of four patients, no care plan in sight,
Reality shock came upon us for nothing seemed right.

Four semesters of study, class and clinical too
We’ve made some great friends, and gray hairs, just a few.

Through it all, the circle of life continued to roll by
A few new “little ones” were born and a sweet friend died.

Now that school is all finished, we hope we’re prepared.
In facing the future we’re a little bit scared.

Though all that we’ve been through, at times seems a curse.
When YOU look in the mirror…
You’ll see a ROCKIN’, AMAZING, FABULOUS NURSE!
